Continuing on with the Passion in Portland attending author theme, I’d like to introduce you all to the amazing Sarah Cradit. Not only is Sarah a USA Bestseller and a fellow Oregonian, she’s also a total history geek, like me! I love that and I can’t wait to meet her!
What sparked the idea for your latest novel? Was there a specific “Ah—ha!” moment?
I write for a single series/saga, so the storylines often progress in very natural (though often unexpected ways). For the last release I have coming out in October, Myths of Midwinter (Volume 6), I deviate a bit from the main storyline in order to bring in some new characters and concepts. It was a fun creative shift.
Tell us about your hero and heroine? What makes them and their story unique?
I work with an ensemble cast, but I think of my heroes as the two families the series centers around. The Deschanels are a wealthy and venerable plantation family who made a fortune during Reconstruction. Their reputation is solid, but they have a dark history, involving blood feuds and mythical ancestors. The Sullivans, by contrast, have made their money as a family of New Orleans attorneys, and earned their reputation for honest hard-workers. But there’s far more lurking behind the office doors than the public is privy to.
Why do you write Romance? Why your specific sub-genre of romance?
I’d say Romance is more my sub-genre, with Paranormal being the main. Regarding the romantic elements, I try to tap into what makes people tick… in a lot of ways, the darker side of romance emerges in the process. We all make questionable decisions in the name of love.
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you at a signing?
Nothing especially stands out, so here’s to hoping I have a story from Passion in Portland to share. 😉
Now for the Lightening Round! Answer these fast and quick (ala the Hot Seat questions on Inside the Actor’s Studio)
Chocolate or vanilla?
Where do you write?
Wherever inspiration strikes best!
Favorite romance novel plot device?
A well-executed love triangle.
What trait in a man do you find most sexy?
Sense of humor
Can’t say for all of them, but Nicolas Deschanel would be played by Max Irons, without doubt!
(Personally, I think that’s an excellent choice!)
Thanks so much, Sarah! Keep reading for more info on Sarah’s books…
Sarah is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Paranormal Southern Gothic series, The House of Crimson & Clover, born of her combined passion for New Orleans, and the mysterious complexity of human nature. Her work has been described as rich, emotive, and highly dimensional.
An unabashed geek, Sarah enjoys studying obscure subjects like the Plantagenet and Ptolemaic dynasties, and settling debates on provocative Tolkien topics such as why the Great Eagles are not Gandalf’s personal taxi service. Passionate about travel, Sarah has visited over twenty countries collecting sparks of inspiration (though New Orleans is where her heart rests). She’s a self-professed expert at crafting original songs to sing to her very patient pets, and a seasoned professional at finding ways to humiliate herself (bonus points if it happens in public). When at home in Oregon, her husband and best friend, James, is very kind about indulging her love of fast German cars and expensive lattes.

Nicolas Deschanel was betrayed by the only two people who matter to him. Their disloyalty stung and an overwhelming sense of loss lingers. Nicolas has lived the high life professing to not have a care in the world, and now this illusion is calling his bluff.
Determined to take control of an existence now devoid of purpose, he sojourns to his family’s holiday home on the Gulf of Mexico. Resolved more than depressed, he plans to privately say goodbye to a world which no longer needs him. Of questionable fortune, he finds a woman, Mercy, sitting alone on the shore at eventide. Nicolas is conflicted between an obligation to help, and annoyance at her intrusion.
Mercy has many layers of secrets. Deepest of all, she cannot tell this Child of Man she is thousands of years old and very powerful. In her presence, Nicolas’ own dormant powers begin to surface, triggering a sequence of events that cause both of their lives to spiral further out of control. When old friends from both sides come to help, together they all learn a painful truth: new life can only begin once you’ve set free what means the most.
