The Lure Of Romance

Latte Art by Mortefot

Today another of my new friends from Montlake Romance, Susannah Sandlin, dropped by for a chat and a cuppa. So pour yourself something tasty, pull up a chair, and join in on the conversation as I ask this author of dark paranormal romance (just my kind!) a few questions. Like why she loves paranormal romance…

I always like to joke that I love to read romance novels—as long as either the hero or heroine (or both) aren’t human. Yeah, I’m one of those paranormal romance people. What’s the lure of paranormal romance?

It’s the same as the lure of romance in general, I imagine. We like to get caught up in other people’s lives, to see the happily-ever-after (or at least the happily-for-now) that we often don’t see in real life. We can indulge in the forbidden—the man our families would never approve of. We can indulge in the daydream—the macho male that in real life would drive us insane but in a romance novel allows us to believe that the love of the right woman can tame any guy.

With paranormals, we get the added thrill of danger, or the unknown, or even indulge in the swept-off-our-feet-by-an-otherworldly-passion fantasy.

S – Oh, I hear you! I do love my paranormals. I’m one of “those” romance people, too. 😉

David Wenham by Maninblackvib

What’s my favorite romantic movie? Well, I have to admit I love disaster flicks more than romances and will usually run the other way, screaming, if threatened with a romantic comedy. (This also might explain the attraction to paranormal romance.) So I guess I’ll say Lord of the Rings. I mean, Aragorn and Arwen are a pretty awesome love story. Plus, I get to drool over David Wenham and Sean Bean and fight Lord Sauron.

S – I do love a good disaster movie, especially if it’s got a little romance thrown in for fun. And David Wenham can join me in battle anytime! 🙂

Who is the most romantic couple in history? Zsadist and Bella in JR Ward’s third Black Dagger Brotherhood book, Lover Awakened. Holy cow, is Z a damaged man but the way Bella’s insistence on loving him turns his life around makes for an amazing story.

S – Susannah, you are a woman after my own heart. I do adore that book. Their romance melts my heart into goo.

What’s my idea of a romantic getaway? A mountain cabin in the middle of nowhere, during the fall when the air has its first real crisp hint of frost, or maybe even at first snowfall. No computers, no TV, cell phones for emergency only. Sigh.

S- Now let’s find out about Susannah’s AMAZING new paranormal romance. Which, by the way, I can’t WAIT to get my hands on!

With the vampire world on the brink of civil war over the scarcity of untainted human blood, battle lines are being drawn between the once peaceful vampire and human enclave of Penton, Alabama, and the powerful Vampire Tribunal.

A Scottish gallowglass warrior turned vampire in the early 17th century, Mirren Kincaid once served the Tribunal as its most creative and ruthless executioner—a time when he was known as the Slayer. But when assigned a killing he found questionable, Mirren abandoned the Tribunal’s political machinations and disappeared—only to resurface two centuries later as the protector and second-in-command of Penton. Now the Tribunal wants him back on their side—or dead.
To break their rogue agent, they capture Glory Cummings, the descendant of a shaman, and send her to restore Mirren’s bloodthirsty nature. But instead of a monster, Glory sees a man burdened by the weight of his past. Could her magic touch—meant by the tribunal to bring out a violent killer—actually help Mirren break his bonds and discover the love he doesn’t believe he deserves?

It’s a town under siege, a powerful warrior in a battle with his past, and one woman who can make the earth move—literally—as the Penton Legacy continues.

Note: TODAY is the last day book one in the Penton Legacy Series, REDEMPTION, is available for $1.99 for Kindle!

S- Just bought my copy!

A big THANK YOU to Susannah for joining us today. And a question to my lovely readers: If you were caught in a disaster (natural, man-made, or alien), which disaster would you prefer and what leading man would you want fighting alongside you?

To those of you on the East Coast, I hope everyone is safe and dry. And I hope you all have a fabulous day!

  1. bella and Zsadist is my favourite couple so far in teh blackdaggerhood series but i prefer aragorn and arwen ( though i’m wondering why with the elves it’s always the woman who must give up her immortality…pff totally unfair)

( hehe Roger i beat you in the last stop oof the tour now ^^ héhé revenge in the blog tour for River Road ^^)

  2. miki – Darn, I was busy trying to make my printer work so I’m late, again. Such fun! Think I’ll go reread River Road, the ARC, just in case. When I get my official copy from Amazon I’ll be ready. Expect to find a small change near the end.

Shea – I’d rather not be in a disaster, but if I were to choose a fighting leading man it would be Mirren from Absolution. Could I pick a fighting leading women instead? Glory from Absolution or D.J. from Royal Street.

    Susannah – Enjoyed the Q&A.
